Characteristics

It is a perennial shrub of small height, extremely durable and aromatic. It is found in the southern and Mediterranean regions of Europe and in various parts of Asia.

Beneficial properties

Its use has been known since antiquity because of its pharmaceutical properties, with a special place in the pharmacology and medicine of the ancient peoples of the Mediterranean, such as Greeks, Romans and Egyptians. Its beneficial properties are mainly due to thymol, which is the basic ingredient of its essential oil. Thyme has antiseptic, fungicidal, anti-microbial, expectorant and antioxidant properties and is considered to be the predominant plant with the most therapeutic properties.

Use

Typical aromatic of Mediterranean cuisine along with oregano and basil.

It is used fresh or dry and flavors delicious meats, fish, soups, sauces and salads. Leaves and flowering peaks are used.
