Beneficial Properties
One of the most popular products of Althea, the tea of Mount Olympus, is known for its many beneficial properties and its delicious flavor. This plant is highly preferred, especially in the winter months, due to its beneficial effect on colds and inflammations of the upper respiratory system, thanks to its anti-inflammatory, bacteriostatic and antioxidant action – properties enhanced by the addition of honey. It is also considered to be ectopathic, diaphoretic, tonic, anti-irritant and anti-anemic because it contains Fe (Floca et al 1981), while modern studies show that Sideritis Scardica has strong action against Alzheimer’s disease.
Use
Delicious and aromatic, can be consumed hot or cold, with sugar, honey or plain. Warm: Add a little honey, a few drops of lemon and a few drops of fine brandy. Cold: Add ice cubes and a little juice of lemon or orange.
